Pick-to-Light

Pick-to-Light

Introduction

Pick-to-light, pick-by-light, put-by-light (abbreviated as PTL) are all terms used for technology that uses displays and buttons on carts or racking to help people to process the right order line. In Sapphire this is always referred to as “pick-to-light”, even when doing any other actions as a pick.

Hardware

StockControl supports the ATOP AblePick range of pick-to-light technology for order picking. ATOP has several product ranges, but they all work with the same controlling software and as such they are interchangeable. Details on the hardware (controllers, pick tags, etc) are outside the scope of this documentation.

How it works

To use pick-to-light within StockControl, you need to create a zone that has the property ptl set to true. All other zones need to have ptl set to false.

developer Currently the only way of setting the ptl property is directly in the database.

In the PocketApp, you should log into the zone that has ptl set to true, and in the settings you should enable pick-to-light.

The setting pick-to-light is a user local setting on the app. This is so that when the pick-to-light hardware is unavailable, orders can still be picked with barcode scanning or manually.

Then, when starting an order on a pick-to-light zone, and with pick-to-light enabled, the PocketApp will show order info on the screen and the still open order lines for that order. As items are picked using the pick-to-light hardware, the screen will update. When all lines are done, the PocketApp will continue to expedition (is it has been configured to do so).

During picking, the order picker can use the up and down buttons to adjust the amount of items to be picked (if hardware allows it). The updated amount is communicated with Sapphire and processed as a manco.
